DPA Probes Possible Ways of Cooperation with the Dutch Institute Adm. Ayman Saleh, Chairman of Damietta Port Authority (DPA), received yesterday Dr. Abdelazeem Mohamed, Chairman of River Transport Authority, Egypt (RTA), with a delegation from Deltares Institute, The Netherlands. The meeting aimed to discuss possible ways of cooperation between the two sides.   Adm. Saleh made a presentation about Damietta Port (DP), exploring available potentials, infrastructure and various competitive advantages. Today DP is a multimodal transport center and is connected to domestic and regional trading areas effectively. The Port Authority Chairman also highlighted DP's potentials for river transport at the lowest possible costs hinting at the obstacles that may hinder the full use of this service. Workshop Ends with Success in Damietta Port On October 26, 2017, Damietta Port organized a successful workshop entitled  "Damietta Port as Gas and Oil Logistic Hub". The major companies working in the field of oil and gas and which were also awarded the Oil Concession Agreement in the Mediterranean Sea were invited to the event . A number of oil services logistics companies , representatives of competent authorities and the Port of Rotterdam also attended. In his  opening speech Adm. DPA hits its highest handling rate in 2016- 2017 in August
Damietta Port hit a new record last August where cargo handling volume  increased by 40%  from 2.5 million tons in August 2016 to 3.5 million tons in August 2017. This is the highest monthly rate achieved over the past two years 2016 - 2017 according to the monthly statement issued by DP Information Center  which pointed out to a significant increase in the number of handled TEUs by 85% in August 2017 compared by August  2016. The statement pointed out that the port of Damietta recieved 248 ships in August 2017compared to 200 vessels the same month last year. Global Voith Company invited DPA to visit its factories
Due to the importance of the latest global technology in the industry of Propellers., ADM. / Ayman Saleh Port of Damietta Authority Chairman went to Germany, by invitation from Voith Group, To visit the companies' factories and get acquainted with its production lines according to latest technology in pilot ship and anti-pollution boat construction.  ADM./ Saleh also went to Voith's Lab Tug simulator where a number of computerized maneuvers were carried and for the port's  two tugs" Mukhtar & Ibrahim."     The visit underlined Voith's ability to provide spare parts, services and maintenance necessary for Damietta port tug fleet.  On the fringe of the visit, ADM./ Saleh called on port of Hamburg to see how Egyptian ports can benefit from… More....

Alphaliner: Global Container Volumes on the Rise in H1
During the first six months of this year, the global container port throughput rose by 6.7 percent and the growth is on track to hit over 6 percent for the full year, a six-year high, according to Alphaliner. The estimate was made based on the survey results from over 250 ports, with a combined annual throughput of more than 550 million TEU.  “Total volume growth powered ahead in the second quarter to reach 7.4 percent, ahead of the 5.9 percent recorded in the first quarter this year. The momentum is expected to continue into the second half, with the latest figures for July also showing very strong figures,” Alphaliner added. Experienced assessors of Lloyds Register has visited Damietta Port On 4/7 /2017 to assess the requirements for implementing ISO 14001 / 2015 Environmental Management System . The auditors of  LRQA- a world leading provider for ISO certification- have also reviewed the renewal of ISO 9001/2015 and OHSAS 18001 / 2007. Adm Ayman Saleh chairman of Damietta port said that Damietta port has made great efforts to obtain the ISO 14001 Certificate . he added that the LR team have analyzed the compliance requirements for ISO 14001/ 2015 including the effective management of environmental impacts , commitment to pollution prevention and reduction of emissions. DPA Chairman: No Raise in Port Service Fees
Damietta Port Authority (DPA) stressed its commitment not to raise the port service rates in the face of the recent increases in both fuel and electricity prices. The decision came in favor of the port clients despite DPA incurrence of heavy expenses as a consequence of excess costs in operating authority-owned marine units, including tugs offering their services to mega ships and consuming larger quantities of fuel which in return will eventually affect  the port revenues. "We are committed not to raise our service rates, with no further excess in tug and pilotage rates in addition to all the services offered by the port", DPA Chairman declared.     More....

Day of the Seafarer 2017 Seafarers Matter

Majority of Maersk Terminals Operational after Cyber Attack
Danish transport and logistics major Maersk has restored operations at the majority of its terminals only days after the company’s operations were disrupted by the cyber attack Petya. “The majority of our terminals are now operational,” the company said, adding that some of these terminals are operating slower than usual or with limited functionality. “APM Terminals continue to work towards full restoration of its IT systems,” Maersk informed. Maersk Line said that all vessels continue to be under control, employees are safe and communication to crew and management onboard is functioning. Additionally, the company informed that it is now able to accept booking again via INTTRA. Maersk Line Names Salalah as Solution for Qatar Cargo
Container shipping major Maersk Line said that it has now opened acceptance of cargo to/from Qatar to be transshipped over Port of Salalah, Oman. However, Maersk Line stressed that booking acceptance is open for all countries except UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and Yemen in compliance with the government guidelines. “We will serve Doha for our customers on our own feeder to/from Salalah.
