The auditors of  LRQA- a world leading provider for ISO certification- have also reviewed the renewal of ISO 9001/2015 and OHSAS 18001 / 2007. DPA Chairman: No Raise in Port Service Fees
Damietta Port Authority (DPA) stressed its commitment not to raise the port service rates in the face of the recent increases in both fuel and electricity prices. The decision came in favor of the port clients despite DPA incurrence of heavy expenses as a consequence of excess costs in operating authority-owned marine units, including tugs offering their services to mega ships and consuming larger quantities of fuel which in return will eventually affect  the port revenues. "We are committed not to raise our service rates, with no further excess in tug and pilotage rates in addition to all the services offered by the port", DPA Chairman declared.     More....

Day of the Seafarer 2017 Seafarers Matter

DotS was established in a resolution adopted by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila to adopt the revised STCW Convention. Its stated purpose is to recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society as a whole. The resolution "encourages Governments, shipping organizations, companies, shipowners and all other parties concerned to duly and appropriately promote the Day of the Seafarer and take action to celebrate it meaningfully". Majority of Maersk Terminals Operational after Cyber Attack
Danish transport and logistics major Maersk has restored operations at the majority of its terminals only days after the company’s operations were disrupted by the cyber attack Petya. “The majority of our terminals are now operational,” the company said, adding that some of these terminals are operating slower than usual or with limited functionality. “APM Terminals continue to work towards full restoration of its IT systems,” Maersk informed. Maersk Line said that all vessels continue to be under control, employees are safe and communication to crew and management onboard is functioning. Additionally, the company informed that it is now able to accept booking again via INTTRA. Maersk Line Names Salalah as Solution for Qatar Cargo
Container shipping major Maersk Line said that it has now opened acceptance of cargo to/from Qatar to be transshipped over Port of Salalah, Oman. However, Maersk Line stressed that booking acceptance is open for all countries except UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and Yemen in compliance with the government guidelines. “We will serve Doha for our customers on our own feeder to/from Salalah. New silo inaugurated by president Sisi in Damietta port
Within several projects, President Sisi has opened a new grain silo in Damietta port.    Adm./ Ayman Saleh, port of Damietta Authority Chairman said the new grain silo has been established  next to the already existing silo on berth 13 - 14.  Saleh went on saying that the new project is powerful added value component for our national economy.   Being the biggest among other 25 silos under a UAE grant for Egypt, the new silo is 70.000 tons capacity and contains ten storing cells.  Withdrawing capacity from ship is 700 tons / hr; while discharging capacity from the silo is 4500 tons/ hr.  Saleh added that the silo equipped with new electronic scales, which will help decrease vessel discharged time. New terminal in Damietta port in cooperation with armed force engineering Authority
Damietta port has signed last week a cooperation protocol with   Armed forces Engineering Authority to construct multi- purpose terminal in Damietta port. AD./ Ayman Saleh chairman of DPA said that the new terminal comprises berths of 630m. long, 17 m. depth. And back area 75000 m2. He added that the terminal will be completed in 18 months. The berth will carried out by diaphragm wall system according to the edge of art structural systems. The berth will be equipped by all facilities and networks like : electricity – water –waste water. Rotterdam Boosts Container Throughput
Rotterdam Port has recorded a substantial 8.8% growth in container volume, which it says is significantly above the market average, in the first quarter of 2017. A total of 2% more goods passed through the Dutch Port of Rotterdam in the first quarter than in the same period last year. Growth in volumes was seen across 10 different commodities, excluding liquid bulk, and gave the port a throughput volume of 119.3 million tonnes. Rotterdam Port points to several metrics as evidence it is on the path to being a regional hub for containers.  Container increased 10.8% by weight to 34.3 million tonnes and 8.8% by volume to 3.3 million TEU. MOL Plans Four 20,000 TEU LNG Mega-Ships
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), the largest and oldest of Japan's international ocean carrier companies, has got the green light for four LNG-powered 20,000 TEU container-ships that have been under construction with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). DNVGL, a registrar and classification society headquartered in Germany, has approved plans for the series of container-ships. Construction of the vessels began in 2015 after MOL anticipated using LNG as a fuel. Global regulations on exhaust emissions are becoming tighter for merchant vessels due to more action being taken by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), other specialized international bodies and countries all over the world.
