First General Assembly of the MEDPorts Association
The port of Marseille Fos hosted on 27th June 2018 the first General Assembly of the MEDPorts association which now groups around twenty port authorities around the Mediterranean. The aim of MEDPorts is to create an area of ​​enhanced operational cooperation in the Mediterranean, within a sustainable structure, and to share collective experience to give Mediterranean ports increased visibility on the world maritime transport scene. Investment- Oriented Package of Decisions
Damietta Port Authority (DPA) is studying a new package of decisions to buttress investment and attract further port users. Recently, DPA Board agreed to exempt rail-transported cargo from the handling charge of L.E.1/ton, a decision made by the board in 1997. DPA chairman Admiral Ayman Saleh pointed out the exemption decision aims to foster multi-modal transport in port of Damietta with special focus on rail transport as it is very competitive compared to other modes of transport , actively helps lessen the burdens on road transport, and reduce road accidents .   Saleh said a further set of encouraging decisions are under study eying a niche for Port of Damietta in world competition  market under Win Win Rule. ThyssenKrupp is keen to provide Egypt with its expertise in the development of production units in the fertilisers industry in order to boost its efficiency and production. Local and foreign companies are invited to participate in the following Public Auction launched by Damietta Port Authority (DPA):   General Conditions:.  The booklet of conditions and specifications can be obtained from the General Department of Contracts and Procurements at Damietta Port Authority. The booklet can also be requested in cash via Express Mail.  Bids shall be submitted in the Tender and Auction Hall in front of the main gate of Damietta port at 12:00 PM on the day specified for the auction. Ukrainian Company Considers Investment in River Transport at Damietta Port
In line with Ministry of Transport' s policy to maximize benefits of the river transport system and activate the transport of goods via River Nile, Damietta Port has received a delegation from the Ukrainian Grain Trading Company,  Nebulon. The Visit aimed to study the possibility of investing in transporting grain and establishing modern silos on the banks of the Nile in coordination with Egypt's River Transport Authority, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade and the Ministry of Irrigation. Giant leap in the Petrochemical Industry in Damietta Port
In the context of the giant leap achieved by the Egyptian oil sector, Damietta Port Authority and Suez Company for Methanol Derivatives started the implementation procedures for a new project which is considered the first of its kind to produce 18 thousand tons formaldehyde urea with a concentration of 85, 34,000 tons of formaldehyde with a concentration of 65, 26,000 annually of Naphthalene formaldehyde, which is used in the manufacture of fertilizers, ready-made concrete and adhesives, which is needed for the consumption of the Egyptian industry. Makkah Initiates Dredging in Damietta Port’s Access Channel
Rear Adm. Ayman Saleh, Chairman of Damietta Port Authority (DPA) said that in a quick and unconditional response, Vice Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has agreed that the SCA-owned dredger (Makkah), would start an urgent dredging work at the access channel of Damietta Port (DP) after the seasonal storms DP encountered during this winter. DP usually faces sedimentation annually with varying quantities from one year to another. Saleh added that dredging aims to secure the entry of the giant ships, the port used to receive lately after DPA deepened the access channel and the turning basin of the port to facilitate accommodation of vessels with a 14.5 meter draft in accordance with The Maritime Declaration… More....

Unprecedented Increase in DP Performance
Adm. Ayman Saleh, Chairman of Damietta Port Authority stated that indicative figures of Damietta Port Performance Report within the past 3 years showed an unprecedented increase of 635 vessels compared to the preceding 3 years. During (2015, 2016 and 2017) Damietta Port received 7782 vessels compared to 7147 ships in (2012, 2013, 2014 ) of which 3460 were container vessels with a 14% increase. Saleh added that DP has achieved another leap in throughput of 15.6 million tons in 3 years with a 19% increase. The results  also showed growth in total number of containers during the same 3 years by 23% with handled containers totaling  699.7 millionTEUs.
