DPA Impressive Presence at WMD Parallel Event, South Africa

Damietta Port Authority (DPA) participated in commemorating the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2022 (WMDPE), hosted by the Government of South Africa in the City of Durban, (12 to 14 October 2022), at the invitation of IMO Secretary-General and the Ministry of Transport in South Africa.

Rear Admiral Ahmed Abdel Muti Hawash, DPA Chairman represented the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and DPA in the ceremonial activities.

The parallel event witnessed significant participation of DPA Chairman. On the first day, Hawash joined a discussion on new technology for green transition of the maritime sector, and how to intensify cooperation between countries to apply this technology to develop the maritime transport industry.

The activities of the 2nd day also included a discussion on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the digitization for sustainable, safer and efficient shipping environment. On Day Three, talks were about the blue economy and Oceans plus a presentation by IMO.

The WMDPE is a key international event where maritime community members and global maritime partners can meet and collaborate on innovative strategies to boost maritime performance worldwide. “The theme for this year’s World Maritime Day Parallel Event, is “New technologies for greener shipping”

It is worth mentioning that Damietta Port won this year ‘s award for “the best Egyptian commercial port for adopting more Environment-friendly update technology”, During the celebration of the World Maritime Day 2022, held at the beginning of this month in Alexandria, Egypt.
