Damietta port applies Double Berthing successfully

Damietta port received the river unit (Nasser 53 – K 39) of the Nile National River Transport Company to unload around (487 tons) of packaged cement coming from Minya Governorate, directly onto the berthing ship (Laurel Island), the so-called double berthing, without intermediate discharging or loading operations.

This action was taken in light of directives of Lieutenant-General Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport to optimally use the multimodal transport available in Damietta port, particularly river transport, and to pursue coordination between Damietta Port Authority and the Nile National Company for River Transport with a view to transform Egyptian ports from just places for storing commodities   into gateways for transit, to save time and effort in a way that contributes to higher handling rates in Damietta Port.

Rear Admiral / Ahmed Hawash, DPA Chairman, gave orders to have the operation done in a very professional manner, taking into account all environmental requirements and standards of safety, occupational health and quality, due to the proximity of the barge to the ship laurel Island.
