Damietta Port confirms Readiness to Receiving giant container ships

Due to its position as a preferred destination for giant container ships of the world’s major shipping lines, DPA received the container ship (MILANO BRIDGE) hoisting a Panamanian flag and belongs to the shipping line (ONE) coming from the Saudi port of Jeddah .Milano Bridge’s total length is 366 m, width 51.20 m ,a depth of 14.20 m, overall tonnage is about 150706 tons and maximum tonnage is about 14 thousand TEUs.

The port also received the container ship (NEW YORK EXPRESS which hoists  the German flag and belongs to the German (Hapag-Lloyd) line coming from the Italian port of Genoa. The vessel is 366 m long, and 48 m wide and has the draft of 13.75 m. Its total tonnage is about 143262 tons and its maximum tonnage is about 14,000 TEUs. The vessel discharged and loaded 969 TEUs.

Rear Admiral Walid Awad, DPA Chairman, explained that the port is adopting a carefully designed time schedule to implement a number of development and modernization projects, especially after deepening the navigational channel and the turning basin to reach a draft of 16 m and 15.50 m respectively to match with available depths of the container terminal.

DPA is providing technical support to manage the terminal automatically in cooperation with Damietta Container and Cargo Handling Company. Awad also stressed that all port community members should cooperate to enhance the port’s position as one of the most important hub ports in the Mediterranean basin.
