Head of EU Delegation to Egypt visits Damietta Port

Rear Adm. Ayman Saleh, Chairman of Damietta Port Authority (DPA) received yesterday Ambassador/ Ivan Surko, head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt and Mrs. Clara Kanska, Director of the EU Trade Department within the framework of their  visit to Damietta Governorate.

This visit underlines the growing interest of international partners in investment opportunities available in DP and aims to discuss possible ways of cooperation between DP and EU.

Mr. Saleh reviewed in a PP presentation available investment opportunities and the future projects at the port, including the setup of  a second container terminal, with possible sources of finance being currently under study and the proposed area to be allocated for Damietta Furniture City Product exports.

The PP presentation also  discussed the logistic services provided by the port to oil vessels serving gas fields recently discovered offshore Damietta foremost among which is (Zohr) field.

Saleh pointed to the recent leap in ship and cargo traffic, stressing  the fact that DP has won several ISO awards in addition to the “Best Egyptian Commercial Port” Award for achieving the highest rates in general cargo handling and eco-friendly standards.

Mr. Saleh accompanied the visitors in a voyage to port turning basin, river port access channel ,berths and areas dedicated for future projects .

At the end of the meeting Ambassador /Surko expressed his pleasure to visit DP and promised to study presented  investment opportunities and how far the EU can help particularly with regards to petroleum discoveries -based   projects in the Med.region.
