Koper Port to Discuss Possible Cooperation with Damietta Port

OPS a key point of discussion

Based on the memorandum of understanding signed by Damietta Port Authority (DPA) and Slovenian port of Koper, and in line with Egyptian government’s plans to boost exports to the European markets, Tarek Shahin ,DPA Chairman, received a delegation including representatives of the Slovenian port of Koper, shipping chambers ,The Federation of Freight Forwarders, railway operators, IT companies, Slovenian navigation companies and the representative of the Slovenian Embassy in Cairo on their first visit to Damietta to discuss aspects of bilateral cooperation .

The head of the Slovenian delegation expressed his great interest in visiting Damietta Port and to identify its potentials ,current and future projects .The delegation showed  interest in enhancing cooperation between the two sides, especially with regards to the system of Onshore Power Supply (OPS).

Shahin explained the significance of the OPS and its positive ecological impacts which comply fully with MARPOL convention and confirmed DPA’s readiness to help the port of Koper in applying the system.

Damietta is the premier port in Egypt, Africa and East Mediterranean to adopt OPS which has proved very positive in helping reduce gas emissions and protect marine environment.

Both sides also showed  interest to increase the volume of trade between the two ports ,to harness more contacts in areas such as automation applications , single window system application and the exchange of agricultural products.

At the end of the meeting, the head of the Slovenian delegation invited Damietta Port community representatives  to visit the port of Koper .

Last month, Damietta Port  paid a visit to Koper port and attended “The Koper Port Day” Symposium held in Cairo in light of the MOU signed by both ports.
