Damietta Port has won “the best commercial port in the application of the multimodal transport system” Award During the celebration of the World Maritime Day 2021, held under the theme (Seafarers. at the heart of the future of maritime transport) in Alexandria.

The celebration has been arranged under the patronage of H.E. Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, and in the presence of the President of the Suez Canal Authority, the President of the General Authority for the Economic Zone of the Suez Canal, the president of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), port authority presidents and a group of maritime transport experts and members of the diplomatic corps.

Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, AASTMT President, handed over the award to Rear Admiral. Walid Awad, DPA Chairman.

Awad explained that this award came as a result of Damietta Port Authority’s successful efforts to optimizing the use of multimodal transport available in the port, which includes a river transport terminal with berths length of 340 m and a depth of 5 m, connected to the Nile branch through a navigation channel with a length of 4.5 km. Recently, DPA has reactivated the river transport of goods across the Nile in cooperation with the National Nile River Transport Company.

The port also has a network of railways with lengths of about 19 kms that extends to all port berths, through which various types of containerized and non-containerized commodities are transported out of the port. There is as well a 22 kms long road transport network which is connected to the international coastal road.
