Port of Damietta participates in the first meeting of the Committee of Relations of the Mediterranean Ports Association in Spain

As the only Egyptian port that participated in the establishment of the Mediterranean Ports Association, Damietta Port Authority participated in the first meeting of the Committee on Relations with International Organizations at the Mediterranean Ports Association, which was held in Spain, in the presence of representatives of the ports of Italy, France, Spain and Algeria.

The meeting included a presentation on the port of Damietta under the title “Damietta Port Present and Future”, which included a definition of the port, its location, its features, potentials, investment opportunities and ongoing and future projects. The discussions also discussed the framework of enhancing cooperation between the Mediterranean ports and the necessity of increasing the number of member ports.

In this regard, it was recommended that the Port Authority of Damietta call for the Egyptian ports overlooking the Mediterranean to participate in the membership of the association to make these ports have an impact on the volume of international trade. The attendees also discussed how to support the transformation of member ports to “Smart Ports” to match their European counterparts Supporting trade between each other’s ports and working to increase the share of these ports of world trade, In this context, the representative of the Authority presented the experience of Damietta port by supplying the vessels with electric power through the OPS, which is being carried out for the first time in Egyptian ports instead of relying on their engines to protect the marine environment from pollution. The sea was presented in partnership with an international company to reduce gas and thermal emissions, which was praised by all attendees.

 At the end of the meeting, the member states agreed to choose the port of Damietta to prepare and organize the activities of the next meeting of the association in conjunction with the activities of the Marluge 8 exhibition during the period from 17-19 March.
