Hapag-Lloyd eyes investments in Egypt’s port sector

Egypt’s transport minister Hisham Arafat has met representatives of German company Hapag-Lloyd AG, which generates about 50% of the container traffic at Damietta port.

Arafat presented various investment opportunities in the maritime transport sector to the management of the two companies, such as multi-purpose stations in the ports of the Red Sea, Alexandria and Damietta.

Egypt’s Ministry of Transport cooperates with the Suez Canal Authority in the preparation of the overall master plan for the Egyptian maritime ports, in order to attract investments and create new job opportunities.

The company expressed their wish to invest in a number of projects, especially the second container terminal in Damietta port which is considered one of the major investment projects planned for the harbour.
