Master Tarek Shaheen ,Deputy  Chairman of Damietta Port Authority (DPA) visited the headquarters of the German Voith company, one of The largest companies specialized in manufacturing tugboats propellers to discuss joint cooperation between DPA and the company. DPA Deputy Chairman also visited the Hamburg-based  shipping line Hapag Lloyd which commended the port authority on starting the deepening of the container terminal berths . Shaheen has briefed Hapag on the latest support provided by DPA to the container terminal during the deepening process, which will significantly  qualify the port to receive giant container vessels. DPA buttresses DCHC in Dredging Process
Within the framework of ongoing coordination between Damietta Port Authority (DPA)and Damietta Container and Cargo Handling Company (DCHC),and  according to the terminal's  development plan to reach the market share projected ratio among the Mediterranean ports, DCHC is currently undertaking an ambitious project to reinforce and deepen its berths to reach a depth of 17 m, to accommodate  giant container ships . The project which is scheduled for 22 months, will be implemented in three stages starting 10/10/2018 . DPA confirms full support to the container company during this project, which initially starts with  deepening and reinforcing   of berths (3-4) totaling  about 378 m in length, while container handling is proceeding steadily on the 700 m long berths 1-2 . Spanish SEGAS talks with Damietta Port Authority to resume work at seagas Plant
In light of the general directives  to re-operate gas liquefaction plants and in the framework of continuous cooperation between Damietta Port Authority(DPA) and the Spanish Egyptian Gas Company (SEGAS), the Authority discussed with a delegation of the company means to resume work at Seagas plant inside port of Damietta. Egypt stopped the import of gas as a result of the discovery of new gas fields such as "Zohr field " causing work to discontinue at Seagas Plant. DPA side  expressed readiness of towage services at the port to receive any number of LNG vessels as the port is equipped with globally recognized techniques. Noticeable Vigor of River Transport through Damietta Port
Continuing to activate the role of river transport to and from Damietta port for different governorates of Egypt,. Damietta Port received the floating unit Wataniya 124, " belonging to the National Company for River Transport, which unloaded a 113 tons turbine shaft destined to Damietta power station shipped from Helwan. The General Silos and Storage Company shipped about 220 tons of wheat on the same unit to the Imbaba silos. Damietta Port Authority seeks to activate the river transport within the framework of the Ministry of Transport's interest as river transport lessens pressure on road networks and helps reduce road maintenance costs. Port of Damietta wins the Best Marine Ecology Protection Award for 2018
In the celebration held 25/9/2018 at the Port of Alexandria commemorating  the World Maritime Day 2018 under the theme "IMO 70 Our Heritage - Better Shipping  for a Better Future " Damietta Port won the award of the best Egyptian commercial port in the field of  marine environment protection for this year. Radiation Detection Device for Outgoing Containers in use in Damietta Port
Port of Damietta is operating  a P60 device for the detection of outgoing containers. Rear Admiral / Ayman Saleh, Damietta Port Authority (DPA) Chairman said that DPA  has both  overcome all obstacles and facilitated the operation of the device. DPA decided to run the radiation detector for the exported containers alternately with the environmental monitoring device located on the container gate for a period of one month, which is needed  for the construction of a wall to set apart the two devices, then both devices can be  operated simultaneously. Also DPA has reached a contract to build the concrete wall .Construction started  and  necessary maintenance of the metal  gates of the device after electrification  begun. In 2017, 135 ports handled more than 1m teu with these ports handling 84% of the estimated teu volume worldwide.
According to the ‘DynaLiners Special The Millionaires’ 2018 report of ports worldwide handling more than 1m teu, 110 saw growth, of which there were nine with over 25% growth. The nine ports with growth of more than 25% were Barcelona (34%), Beibu Gulf (27%), Caucedo (35%), Damietta (40%), Jinzhou (48%), Las Palmas de Grand Canaria (28%), Southampton (31%), Tangshan (31%) and Zhuhai (38%). 22 ports saw negative growth, of which Khor Fakkan recorded the largest decline at -45%. Over 10m teu 14 ports recorded over 10m teu. These were Antwerp, Busan, Dubai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Ningbo, Port Kelang, Qingdao, Rotterdam, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore, Tianjin and Xiamen.
