Tarek Shahin, Chairman of Damietta Port Authority (DPA) participated in the activities of the General Assembly of the MEDports Association and MEDports Forum which took place in Marseille, France from 24 to 25 June 2019. The meeting began with introducing new members, presenting the semi-annual reports and projects of the six subcommittees and reviewing the executive steps for the establishing a website of the association. Shahin participated in the seminar entitled "Mediterranean Ports Initiatives and Efforts in the Face of Environmental Challenges", which tackled issues like the blue economy and the green ports, and the role of Mediterranean ports in international shipping. Damietta Port in EMMC Lebanon 2019
Tarik Shahin, Chairman of Damietta Port Authority participated in the activities of the Mediterranean Maritime Mediterranean Conference (EMMC 2019), which took place in Beirut, Lebanon from 19 to 20 June 2019, under the patronage of  the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Saad Hariri. The conference highlighted the achievements of the Eastern Mediterranean region in the maritime sector and the challenge it is facing. It also tackled the readiness of the ports of the region as pivotal ports, the future of the offshore sector and the importance of training and developing the efficiency of the human element in the maritime sector. DPA Inaugurates a New Multi- Purpose Terminal
Minister of Transport, Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, announced the completion of a new multi-purpose terminal in Damietta Port at an investment cost of LE 1.365 billion. The new terminal has been established under the supervision of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority (AFEA) and implemented by a number of Egyptian national companies. The multi-purpose terminal includes  a 630 meters long,17 meters deep berth and is equipped with a backyard area of 50,000 square meters with anticipated capacity of about 4 million tons per year. Al-Wazir highlighted a number of project advantages such as being equipped with all necessary facilities to serve ships and cargoes including seawater firefighting pumps, rainwater drainage, facilities for feeding ships with fresh water and supplying ships with electricity… More....

MIASO To Build 4 Tractor Tugboats for DPA
Within the framework of national directives to develop ports of Egypt  and the services provided to maximize the benefit of maritime transport in support of the national economy, DPA Chairman ,Cpt. Tarek Shahin has signed a contract with Major General Hosam El-Din kotb, representative of the Marine Industries and Services Organization (MIASO) ,affiliated to the Egyptian Defense Ministry to construct and supply four new Tractor Tugboats for Damietta Port. The new deal which will be handed over to DPA in two years, comes as a response to the growing demand on Damietta Port services due to recent infrastructure updates and new projects that will start working in the near future. Damietta Port is ready to accommodate giant ships and apply JIT
After the recent efforts exerted by Damietta Port authority (DPA) to deepen the navigational channel to 16 meters, the turning circle and the container berths to 15.5 meters ,Damietta  Port  is now ready to accommodate giant container vessels up to 14,000 TEU , and 15 meters draft. DPA Chairman Cpt. Tarek Shahin confirmed Damietta Port is now in the forefront  Eastern Mediterranean ports, especially after being set to implement the "Just In Time Operation" on the operation of ships in the port , which aims to reach zero waiting at the port's outside waiting area. DPA Attends FAL Periodical Meeting in London
DPA participated as a member of the Egyptian delegation to the periodical meeting of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL), , at its 43rd  session held in London, among representatives of the other 121 IMO Member States. Discussions focused on the proposed amendments to the maritime facilitation agreement among delegates of member states and how to implement the seven FAL models addressing : public acknowledgment, ship supplies data, ship inventory, crew baggage, crew list, passenger list, Dangerous Cargo list  in its new electronic format. DPA to Adopt “Just In Time” for Ship Operations
In line with the directives of the Transport Minister Eng. Kamel El Wazir to develop marine ports and services to maximize the role of maritime transport in supporting the national economy, Damietta Port Authority (DPA)has completed a study to gauge how to implement Just In Time  (JIT) in ship operations in collaboration with  port community. DPA has had a coordination meeting with representatives of stevedoring companies, shipping agents, General Authority for Export & Import Control, Damietta Customs and Navigation Chamber to discuss this new concept which aims to reach zero level at outside port anchorage . DPA Hosted MedPA Committee Meeting
Damietta Port Authority (DPA) has received the first meeting of Med Ports Association's Committee of (Relations with International Institutions). Port of Damietta is the sole Egyptian port to sign MedPA founding convention. Cpt tarek Shahin, DPA Chairman has welcomed the committee members who came from ports of Marseille ,Valencia and Spanish Ports Authority . Committee President from Port of Venice and representative of the French Port of Pastia  have joined the meeting through Video conferencing. Sahin presented a number of Damietta Port's advantages and marked contributions to regional and global shipping  besides the port's commitment to international maritime regulations.
